Poster exhibited in Kaoru Kasai’s solo exhibition “NOSTALGIA” (2021) at ginza graphic gallery. 1935, when I was in elementary school, I heard the verse of “kazemakase” from the lyrics of “Oedo-shusse-koutata” sung by Shochiku movie star Takada Kokichi. It still remains in my ears. Already in my childhood, I had wondered what is the meaning of the characters on the Japanese paper (Washi paper). The “〽︎” character at the beginning of the lyrics, which I always found mysterious, is called “iori-ten” or “gaten”.
